With the prevalence of herbicide resistance on the rise in the Red River Valley, the agricultural industry as a whole will need to work together to win this fight.
Besides the topic of herbicide resistance, emphasis will also be placed on how we can extend the usefulness of our current pest control options. In a nutshell, this event will cover agronomic best practices for managing problem weeds, delaying resistance and more!
This Antara Pro-Series Agronomy Event will bring together subject matter experts from Manitoba and neighboring States and Provinces to share their experiences in managing herbicide resistance. Along with an excellent line up of speakers, the event will also feature interactive table talk sessions, exhibitors and more!
Attendees will walk away with:
If you are a grower or agronomist in the Red River Valley and you want to learn more about how you can help fight herbicide resistance, register and join us at the Summit in St Jean on March 20th!
A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to STARS Air Ambulance.

Dr. Peter Sikkema specializes in weed management of field crops at the University of Guelph. Along with his colleagues, Peter conducts research on weed management in corn, soybeans, dry beans and cereals. Of particular interest to local farmers, however, are the current investigations on herbicide resistance. Peter is an excellent source of practical innovative solutions for local farmers and he readily shares his knowledge with primary producers.
Peter will be sharing his insights and experiences with multiple herbicide resistant tall waterhemp in Ontario.
Dr. Tom Wolf is a spray application specialist, based in Saskatoon. Tom has over 30 years research experience in spray technology, including work on spray drift, coverage, efficacy, sprayer cleanout, waste disposal and risk assessment. With Jason Deveau, Tom hosts and writes for the world’s number one sprayer website, Sprayers101.com.
Tom will bring us ideas on how we can improve the efficacy of our pesticide applications to better manage problem weeds and delay the onset of herbicide resistance.
Dr. Shaun M. Sharpe is a Research Scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at the Saskatoon Research and Development Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Dr. Sharpe received his BSc. from Mount Allison University in Sackville NB. He received his MSc. from Dalhousie University through the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, Nova Scotia. Here, he studied remote sensing of weeds and wild blueberry phenology. Dr. Sharpe received his doctorate from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL studying black medic management in strawberries. Dr. Sharpe works primarily on high priority herbicide resistant weeds in annual agronomic systems such as kochia and wild oat. Dr. Sharpe has authored or co-authored over 45 peer-reviewed research or extension articles, and currently serves as the Governance Director for the Canadian Weed Science Society.
Shaun will discuss prevention and mitigation of herbicide resistance on the prairies, as well as resistance in kochia, wild oats, and the invasive pigweeds.
*Shaun Sharpe's presentation will be virtual
Dr. Joe Ikley's role as Extension Weed Specialist, NDSU focuses on sharing results from research conducted in the Weed Science Program, as well as addressing timely topics in Weed Science. Prior to his work at NDSU, Joe was a research technician in a weed science program in Indiana where he was in charge of over 50 trials a year that focused on control of problematic weeds.
Joe will join us to discuss his experiences with weed resistance in North Dakota focusing on kochia, tall waterhemp and palmer amaranth.
